A short introduction to powerboating
Learn basic skills for driving a RIB (rigid inflatable boat), sports boats and small inboard day cruisers, including how to launch and recover a boat on a slipway, and boat safety.
Min Age: 8 years. Candidates under 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate.
Previous Experience Required
- Launch and recovery (8-11 years old will observe)
- Preparation of boat and crew
- Boat handling
- Picking up and securing to a mooring buoy
- Leaving and coming alongside
- Being towed
Abilities gained after the course
You will be able to drive the powerboat under supervision.
RYA Powerboat Level 2 is the next practical step but if you wish to learn about navigation and safety you should consider the RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship shorebased course.
