This course will teach you the skills required to drive a powerboat
This RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence which is required by many countries if you wish to take a powerboat out on the water. It can be taken inland or in coastal waters and the certificate will be endorsed accordingly
Min Age: 12 years. Candidates under 16 years will be issued with an endorsed certificate

- Boat handling
- Securing to a buoy
- Leaving and coming alongside
- Man overboard
Abilities gained after the course
You will be able to drive a powerboat in good conditions in daylight hours and be aware of own limitations, with an awareness of other craft. On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the RYA Level 2 certificate and, depending on your nationality, be able to apply for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC).
RYA Intermediate Powerboating is the next practical step but if you wish to learn about navigation and safety, you should consider the RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship shorebased course.
If you wish to continue to the RYA Intermediate Powerboating or the RYA Advanced Powerboat course, you should really complete the RYA Day Skipper Shorebased Theory. If your aim is to enable you to be able to drive a tender for a superyacht, you should next complete the RYA Powerboat Tender Operator Course.
