A course designed to give complete beginners and those with some previous experience a thorough introduction to windsurfing.
RYA Youth Windsurfing Stage 1 is all practical and no theory! No previous knowledge or experience is necessary. The goal is to get on the water and discover the fun of windsurfing.
Participants will be shown how to prepare themselves and their board before going afloat. They will be taught how to sail, steer, and turn, and be able to make progress upwind and downwind, including Tacking and Gybing. Students will learn how to handle the rig whether launching, starting or landing and will be introduced to some basic sailing techniques, stance and manoeuvres. They will be familiarised with rigging (including the basic components of the rig and board), wind direction, rescue techniques and safety.
At the end of the course, they will be able to sail to a chosen point on the water and return to where they started in light winds.
Min Age: None. However, training centres often take children from age 8.
