Practical skills to get you windsurfing around a course.
RYA Youth Windsurfing Stage 2 aims to teach you how to make the board sail and quicker. You may be able to sail a larger course and use some slightly faster equipment by the end of this course. During this course your instructor will teach you the knowledge and practical skills to get you sailing around, practising tacking and gybing, and enabling you to make progression towards and away from the wind. Existing skills and knowledge will be developed to include tacking and gybing, knots, sailing conditions and sailing theory.
Min Age: None. However, training centres often take children from age 8
Previous Experience Required
Prerequisites for the course are practical skill and background knowledge equivalent to Youth Stage 1.
- Practical skills to increase confidence windsurfing around a course.
- Practice faster tacking and gybing
- Introduction to beach starts
- Upwind sailing
- Theory on wind direction and safety
Abilities gained after the course
Windsurfers will be able to sail on all points of sail in light winds, tack and gybe
